MS Outlook is a popular email client which is used by most of the individuals in an organization or office. It supports two file formats to store the user data i.e. .pst file and .ost file, to stores the data on local hard drive .pst file format is used. It uses a single .pst file to store all the data related to an Outlook profile.

But the major problem is the .pst file gets corrupted very easily, which results in Outlook data loss and Outlook may stops working. At this point if you have a backup then it is to get back the lost data, else you need to use.pst repair tool to fix corrupted PST file. A PST file is not very robust and is vulnerable to corruption. A few frequently occurring scenarios are listed here:

  • If a user shares the .pst file over the network or access through some remote device, it may corrupt, because PST file would need frequent access of .pst file which is not supported by network environment.
  • Since the .pst file uses ANSI coding, if Outlook terminate abnormally due to application/system crash or power surge then the chances of writing garbage values are more, which affects the content of .pst file, which may leads to corruption of it.
  • Suppose if your .pst file get infected by some virus while accessing an email server which is not configured properly, then also it may corrupt.

In spite of the reason, as it is stated before, if you face .pst file corruption and you don’t have an updated backup then using some PST repair tool is the only option which can user go for.

You can use the inbuilt sanpst.exe, which is installed with Outlook. There are certain limitations in using scanpst as it only repairs the .pst file’s header and it deletes anything which is not understood. This may further damage your .pst file as the Outlook tool repair the original PST without creating a new file, which may further damage the file.

So it is better to use some good third party repair tool to deal with .pst file corruption. These will not at all damage the original .pst file. They simply scan the entire .pst file, extract data from it and create a new .pst file, which is a safest method.

Remo Repair Outlook (PST) is one such application which I recently came across. It is incorporated with a smart scanning algorithm which never let any information to miss out. It also offers two different options of scan to customize the level of scan and get the required output.

Choosing a tool is very important as a wrong tool may lead to permanent .pst file damage and data loss beyond recovery. So before using any software application, download its demo version, take a copy of your .pst file and try on it. Evaluate the software in all the ways. Once you are sure that it really works, then use it to your repair.
